im just new in photography since i got my DSLR just two weeks ago. I've been practicing some shots since then. But since i'm a beginner, a feedback or comments from experts will do me great help. At this particular picture, do i need to change anything?

You could enhance the composition by finding a focus point or something to put in the foreground to make it more interesting. Basically, try to find a subject. Having a subject in every shot you take is an easy way to enhance the composition. Think about what you want the viewer to see. What did you see that made you take this photo? What are you trying to convey?

Also, I would try HDR in a scene like this. Right now, there is no detail in the bottom half of the photo which detracts from it. I prefer to use grad ND filters, but since there isn't an uninterrupted horizon line in this shot, I would use HDR to obtain detail from the shadow areas as well.

What bothers me is too much dark space on the bottom. I'd rather see too much orange sky than the empty dark.

Sun might be better on side and not in center, but I'm obsessive about thirds so this might be just me.

I love the depth of the silhouettes. Great job on that.

The colors are nice. The only thing I might suggest is to crop this image so that there's not so much space used up. Maybe just crop to see those two most prominent buildings on the right hand side, while leaving some room for the sun? Just a thought.

I am going to go wth EOBeav and suggest a little crop. However, my suggestion would be to crop just to the left side of the right building, and right side of the left building.

Using the black vertical lines of the buildings to create a frame, so to speak.

This then creates a "U" which pulls my eye into the shot, smoothly.

Just my 2c's

I like the colours, but I wonder what the composition would have looked like if the sun hadn't yet broken the horizon?

Like everyone else, I'd suggest cropping, or if your lens isn't at the longest focal length, then zooming. I like the shapes made by the buildings to the left of that massive sign, and combining that with the pre-dawn colors, or with the sun just peeking over the buildings could be stunning.

a big thanks for the critiques and suggestions! i consider this as a good learning experince. i will now do cropping on this as it is suggested by most. but then i like to do the same shot again and this time i'll be asking a friend to be my subject and everything will still be in silhouettes.
