I can't see the attachment. Attachments don't always work well on this site for some reason. Try this: Posting Photos from Flickr [July 2010 Update]

Ahh, that brings back memories of my trip there many years ago. The water in those canals looked disgusting.
Back to your image. I like the scene you captured, but the focus looks soft and the buildings on the left look like they're leaning towards the canal. There is too much dynamic range is this shot for your sensor to handle, so either the sky is going to be blown out or the buildings will be too dark. If you bracketed your shots, I'd be tempted to try HDR to overcome the dynamic range issue. It would be tough to use an ND grad for this composition.

You asked about composition.. Fairly obviously you wanted the bikes and canal to be the subject. In this case I would choose to move the camera to a more central spot on the bridge, and take the photo with either 1 or 3 bikes, and omit half bikes, and try to get bikes that don't overlap.I would also have got lower so the bikes in question were sillioutted in the bright spot on the canal.
Personally I like the b&w conversion, this is obviously a personal thing, but I like the lack of dynamic range, the blown highlights an black shadows adds to this as a street style photo along the style of the greats from the 50's and 60's. I think one more addition to this picture would be a human being, preferably in clothes that don't show the era the photo was taken in, wheeling their bike or just getting on it or just walking past or something, just to bring a bit of life to the scene.. You're in a city, but have omitted the population.

I guess it's a matter of preference if you like the blown out sky look. You'll have to decide which type you like the best. Did you use a tripod? I was trying to see which part of your image was in focus and I don't see any part of it that is particularly sharp. That's why I was wondering if you used a tripod. Did you use auto focus or manual?
