Default Popular Church Steeple Photo

Hi Everyone,

I'm really curious as to why this photograph has gotten so many hits on Flickr. It's boggling my mind! None of my other photos have come even close, even the ones that I think are better. Am I missing something? Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks for looking!

Marla

Do your Flickr stats for this say where the hits are coming from?
Maybe it has been linked from an off Flickr site.
Edit:
Did it make explore.

well exposed, good contrast, strong graphical lines, all of these make a good image, and also a very good "thumbnail" to draw people in....

I checked out the Big Huge Labs explore page for you, and I didn't see anything. You're right, 12k hits is a lot. You may have made somebody's popular gallery, though. Somebody out there likes you.

Thanks guys,I really appreciate your comments. I have a free account with Flickr for now, so I can't see what's driving visitors to this one photo. If it has been added to someone's popular gallery, I have not been informed. That's odd too, because others have asked permission to add some of my other shots to galleries.

I like this one (the play of the shadows & highlights on the steeple). It's why I posted it, but I have other shots that I think are better. I also rotate stuff in & out since I can only post a maximum of 200. But then again, you just never know how someone will respond to something. The internet is an amazing thing.

It's probably included on a web page and being used without your permission. Perhaps a church or religious group is using it on their front page, your hit ratio goes up every time someone opens that site.

It's a simple, well exposed religious themed photograph. Exactly the kind that people like to use in stock photos.

Hi SwissJon,

Is there any way to track it from Flickr if that's the case? I've had some one copy & use wedding shots off my website, but we were able to track those images. I think those have been protected since then. I'm not adverse to someone using it, but they could have asked me if that's the case.

Yeah, I think you probably can.. Look under your stats, under "referrerrs".

I've found the most referrers are Flickr, My own website, and this one.. Maybe you just used a good keyword and everyone searched on Flickr, but if someone has linked you from their site, this is where it would show up.

I just looked for the image using tineye.com, it doesn't appear anywhere in the 1.9 billion images it searched, not to say someone else isn't using it tho..i have one other trick up my sleeve to check...

::EDIT:: no luck....

Hi BuddhaPi,

Thanks for trying, I checked Tineye too. It's really odd that it's over 12k. Never had a photo get much more than a hundred hits, & most are in the single digit range. It's just weird. My hubby & I have talked about it...he doesn't have an answer either.

I guess searching steeples in Flickr is popular. LOL
