Default Columbia River on Fire

On a hunch, I drove out to Wallula Gap this evening, where the river stops flowing south and makes an abrupt right as it heads toward the Pacific. I was rewarded with some fantastic colors. I anticipate that my next several posts here will be from this series.

Just wanted your thoughts about composition on this shot. One thing it's lacking is something in the foreground, but I hope to correct that later this spring with the balsamroot starts blooming. Also, any other suggestions/observations you have are also welcome.

This is a really nice photograph. Great colors complementing the terrains' silhouette. Introducing something into the foreground would make it a completely different photo which could be good for a different type of shot, but for this one I think the silhouette of the terrain looks great. The composition is nice, the only thing I would change is to trim it down from the top and take out some of that sky.

Hey, I can see this one!

Nice job, I think the lack of foreground interest gives this one a more abstract look than your other ones. I like the fact that the land silhouette is larger on one side - I don't think this shot would be as interesting if the horizon was even across the whole image. Did you use any filters? I see one way to keep the sun from blowing out an area of an image is to hide the sun behind a silhouette.

I like statichash's suggestion. I'm looking forward to see some of the other shots you took.

I love the colours. It is really great to see such antagonistic colours (red and blue) play so well.

The colouring is great. I am fairly new to any postprocessing but how does it work when you bump up the saturation a little? I know I managed to get some great blues from it in one of my shots.

I think this would make for a really mystifying shot if exposed with an ND filter and a longer exposure so that you have the water smooth and silky as well as the sky.

I agree with Tony on the crop

I really like your photos BTW! A very nice capture this one too
