Default Winter Spring

This is my first post on this website, although I have gotten a lot of great tips from it over the past week or so. I'm still working on getting my camera out of auto mode and trying my own exposure settings. I took this using my Canon Rebel T1I and hoped to capture the movement of the water without making the surrounding snow too bright. I apologize for not having the camera settings available...I will try to include those on the next post. Thanks for taking a look!

Not seeing a picture. Generally speaking, the image attachment feature here on DPS is iffy at best. You'll have better luck uploading to Flickr (or similar) and linking from there.

Also, check out the guidelines that are posted at the top of the critique forums. They ask for EXIF data and specific questions.

I look forward to offering you some comments once those are in place.

The snow seems a bit overexposed (there isn't a lot of detail). Also, maybe a slower shutter speed to blur the water more.

Thanks for the suggestion...I used a shutter speed of 1/20, f/29, ISO of 3200...I darkened it a little on my computer, but I think if I lowered the ISO it might help with the overexposure and maybe give a little more detail to the snow...what do you think?

I'm not very adept at landscape photography at all, but perhaps the ISO is way too high for an outdoor shot (though I suppose it depends what time of day you're shooting). Even at dawn or dusk, you could probably get away with shooting in RAW with an ISO in the hundreds instead of thousands. But snow is elusive for me... I can't shoot it no matter what time of day it is! I like the blur of the water, and yes, if you slowed the shutter speed it would have a more noticeable blur (not necessary for my likeness but some like it as blurred as possible), but I wouldn't suggest a slower shutter speed without a tripod. Anyway, I like the shot, as far as composition, but not so sure about the saturation of color and white balance. I know next to nothing about post-processing programs like Photoshop, so can't help you there, but maybe altering the hue of the snow (it's very blue) would help. I don't know. Just suggestions. Like I said, I'm not very good at landscapes. lol. Anyway, I enjoyed the shot regardless of the particulars!

Oh, and DPS has a great article just up on bracketing, which might help with some of the exposure issues between the snow and water (something I plan on looking into more myself).

Cool, thanks for the advice...I didn't realize how high the ISO was set until I looked up the picture properties on my computer a little while ago...I wonder what I was thinking. I didn't really notice the blue tint to the snow at first, but everytime I look at it it gets bluer and bluer. I have a couple more pics I want to post on here that don't include snow (I'm not a big fan of it) and look forward to seeing what people have to say about it. Thanks again!
