Default Poseidon in Edmonds, WA

It was a windy day on the shores of Edmonds, WA and rarely see the waves get this big.

Can you guys and ladies give me pointers on how I could have improve the shot or settings, if given another opportunity. I was standing on a bench shooting away and could not find anything higher. BTW this is straight from my CF card. Thanks in advance.

About the best asvice I can give you here is "Move".

Shooting anything with an unintentional, unrelated forground that partially blocks the subject is going to leave you with a picture that doesn't look good. The cars in the foreground have really spoiled this picture, and that's a real shame. Going higher wouldn't have helped, you needed to move to a spot where the cars were not obscuring the view.. Try walking in front of them (with a rain mac on) and taking the photo from there.

Yeah I know I should have moved closer to fire off a series of shots for a much more detailed clearer picture. I did move closer and closer from my original position but did not want to get drenched and have my camera soaked.

This is what the other side looked like.

See.. That's much more interesting because you can see it.

Agree 100% with Jon. Landscape photography has a lot to do with opportunity and seizing it when it comes.

Your second shot is a vast improvement on the first. The light is great, you can see the whole wave and the building in the background gives good perspective of the size of the wave.
