I'm going to post it here for help on how to improve it. When I was there on scene the shadows were a lot deeper and the sun shining through them seemed more golden. Not sure what I did wrong that I didn't capture that.

Remember that bright sunlight and deep shadows don't look the same on our camera sensors as they do on our eyeballs. You either have to expose for the trees and get some blown out sunlight coming through, or expose for the sunlight and get a darker, silhouette effect with the trees (which might be kind of cool). Here you got neither. A third alternative is to take different exposures and then blend them using Photomatix or something similar.

Here, I guess the third alternative as suggested by EOBeav would suit best, as that is what your eyes must have seen and coaxed you to take this shot.
Photomatrix is a great tool to create HDRs. Do remember to take your tripod with you and shoot in mutli shot mode, to get minimum diff in the three shots for HDR. Cheers |
