Default Old millhouse B/W

This is a shot from last Sunday. Right behind me was that river, so only one point to take picture from.
Critique of composition or what I could have done different??

Hi..

Your Exif data needs to show the actual focal length you used, as well as the lens and camera, so we can know if you're at the beginning or end of your focal length, that way we can suggest zooming in/out as appropriate.

I like this from the technical aspect, the aperture, the length of time taken etc makes the water rush by, but there appears to be a bit of lacking when it comes to subject.. My eye can't decide what to look at. And also, the photo seems to have been cut in half horizontally by the horizon created by the far side of the river and the bottom of the cabin, and the bright part between the trees and the cabin at the top coinciding with the border of the dark pool and the bright snow at the bottom dead centre vertically. I'm not sure how I'd have done this better from where you were standing, but the photo does appear to be divided into 4 quarters.

I think you've got two potentially outstanding images here, but as it looks now, I don't know where to look. I think the first image you can compose here is the contrast of the smooth white snow against the dark and weathered wood cabin. The second would obviously be the white snow in the foreground with the river. However, since you say you were limited in where you could stand, I don't know how difficult it would be to make two images here and I sure would not want to fall into that water.

Technically, the flow in the water is excellent. Like mentioned before, though, you probably don't want to venture out into it very far in order to get a better comp.
