Default Another Silky Waterfall - B&W

Took this, this weekend. Pretty happy with the way it turned out, but as alway, I am looking for ways to improve.

I wanted the log to balance the shot, but am not sure if it is or if it is distracting?

What do you think of the overall exposure?

Exposure is nice, I don't see any blown out areas. In my humble opinion, the trick to using other objects to balance out a shot like this is to use them in such a way as to enhance your main subject. A leading line, for example, or something in the foreground. As is, the log is distracting to me. Otherwise, you did a nice job, and this would be a place well worth returning to. Keep shooting!

I agree entirely with EOBeav

Perhaps a square crop without the log, and see what you think?

Thanks for the replies....

I tried more of a square crop, but it eliminated the fading out of the white water on the left...which left me feeling strange....

Here is more of that type of shot (ignore the some blow outs)...as an idea....

Waterfall B&W sq.

Thanks again for the comments, I will keep them in mind, as I will be returning to this shot when the weather warms...using your suggestion EOBeav, I might be able to wade left of the log, or right of the rock, to get a different angle...when I can stand in the water for any length of time...

If there was another log on the other side of the water fall, possibly even with leaves and branches along the top, then the trees together could have framed the water fall. Just one stand alone log going through the photo is distracting though.

Lovely shot. I like it better without the log.

Thanks for all the comments.

Any comments about the exposure (on the first one)?

The crop works really well and the exposure is perfect.

Exposure is great on the first one and I like the crop. Just curious, what was your exposure time?
