I love the silhouette effect but one thing I would suggest is to make the main tree and the windmill two different shots. They are both gorgeous objects for a shot and you don't want to take anything away from one. This is just my personal opinion but I hope it helps

1) I think you've got enough verticals to be able to ignore the slope on the horizontal. just make sure that the verticals are vertical.. The tube on the right is the most telling, that seems to be sloping, but that could be the angle it creates with the wind turbine.
2) I would suggest that you crop the trees on both sides, it will make your picture much cleaner. Now, I really like this picture, it does say "Amish" to me.. The clean simplicity of the photograph speaks volumes, and the black and white adds to that. It has all the trademarks of Amish life, and sends a strong message. The only thing that is a shame is that the angle you chose to take this from means that the water tower or whatever it is is not separated from the windmill. Thats a shame, but you couldn't have moved because of where the sun is, oh well. I ALWAYS leave my polorizor on except when it interferes with the picture I'm trying to take, it generally improves the contrast in most photos.. With the snow and sky in your photo, the polorizor probably added a lot to the photo.. A lucky mistake

Thanks for the feedback... I did take one with the tree alone. Someone suggested keeping the windmill in to add interest, hence posting the original.
![]() Grid lines indicate tube is straight, but yeah its deceiving. I wish the windmill blades were 90 degrees in. would make a nicer pic. I live a couple minutes from this farm, and walk the dog past often. Other days with no clouds, I figured I could photoshop the tube out, but with the clouds in there... I think your suggestion to crop out the trees at the sides does improve it.

The tree on its own is very pretty, but the mill adds a story.. I like both photos.
