Default Do you find this photo pleasing or not?

Hey folks,

I just wanted to ask you a quick question on what do you feel about this photo, do you find it aesthetically pleasing or not?

I guess you're gonna say no, just wanted to check.

Basically, I'm happy I finally have a shot to think about after some long time, but I'm having trouble deciding if this is a keeper. I don't think it'll be a keeper for me.

My idea for choosing this composition/crop is to have the frozen tractor tracks leading the eye to the horizon and the sunrise (I know the horizon isn't such a fabulous subject ).

Nikon D60
Nikon 18-105mm @ 70mm
Exposure: 20 seconds
Apperture: f16
ISO: 100
Single raw file cropped, enhanced a bit and sharpened in ACR/PS.

Thanks

Hi! I can't seem to pull up the image. I can see a thumbnail but the image isn't coming up. Any chance you can link to it from your Flickr account? (Directions in the critique forum rules if you are not sure how).

I think I'd have liked a little more angle to the tracks. As it is, the motion of the photo seems to dead-end as the tracks end half-way to the horizon. The frosty plant stems are cool -- maybe a lower-angle would have accentuated them a bit, and you might have been able to aim across the field a little to avoid a centered composition. I like the colors in the sunrise.

Navcom, it happens to me also, there seems to be some problem with attachments.
I found out that you can load the photo if you click the thumbnail to open it in a new tab (or a new page) and then refresh it after the tab/page loads. I always middle-click all the attachments to see them in a new tab, but this one doesn't show up. I have to reload the tab and only then I see it. The reason I didn't link this photo from Flickr is because it's not uploaded there yet.

Thanks for your comments! I agree about the tracks stopping in the middle and a bit of too centered composition. I didn't have much time to think about the composition.

I was mainly interested in emotional response this photo brings up in you, but any comments are welcome. Thanks

Milosh,

I can't even see the photo and I have comments!

Your self-deprecating has already created an image for me.

So.....you don't want me to like the image? You asked if I find this image aesthetically pleasing, then immediately follow with an inference that you don't and you don't think I will either!

So, in essence, you're asking the viewing audience if we think it's a keeper and then immediately imply that it isn't.

So instead of letting us decide, here is another inference that this image sucks.

Perhaps this would achieve more positive results:

The phraseology above, all your words btw, doesn't lead the reader to a pre-drawn conclusion that the image is filled with flaws and is far from aesthetically pleasing.

I have to be forward, I suspect Milosh that there is something about this image (that I have yet to see) that rocks your world. It rocks your world enough to post it on a public forum for all to see. All, as in, seasoned pros to virginous shutterbugs. Leave it at that!

"Hey, I dig this photo! What do you think?"

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What I find captivating you may find boring and uninspired. The other way around certainly applies. I've seen some images on this forum that I ask myself "what were they thinking?" I've gotten that same reaction from my wife when she's seen some of my images.

Anyway Milosh, I look forward to seeing this image and many more from you. I just humbly ask you to not paint your images in such a negative light. I don't wish to come across as offensive - I'm just trying to uplift your confidence in your work. Thank you for reading.

Kindest regards,
Bakeys

Honestly and quickly, the emotional response I get?

I find it a bit boring.. I'm looking for a subject that isn't there so the picture feels incomplete.. The tyre tracks lead into the picture, but then they get cut off before my eye reaches the horizon. The horizon has nothing of interest.

Technically I think this picture is great, I like the forground and the background, the focus is good, the exposure is spot on, the colours ar fabulous.. It's just missing something. With a stronger foreground, the background would enhance it. With a stronger background, the foreground would lead to it.. But there isn't anywhere for my eye to rest and say "Ahh.. that's what this is about".. If only you had an old tractor that made the tracks!

However, having said that, and please don't take this the wrong way.. If I had a fishtank or lizard cage or something else that needed a setting without detracting from the thing you're trying to display, this is exactly the kind of photo that would work hugely well as a backdrop, and if I saw it sold as such in a petshop, I'd probably buy it.. I do like it, and there is a place for it in the world, but on its own, it's not strong enough, it needs a point of focus.

Keep it, and use it in that aspect.

Bakeys, thank you for your comment. As I wrote in the title, my question was do you find this photo pleasing or not. From the stuff I wrote a viewer can get the idea that I'm more negative than positive about this image (as you've noticed), but this doesn't have to influence your view of the image. I pretty much know that it sucks, but I wasn't sure, I needed sort of a confirmation.

Thank you, this is the honest review I was looking for, and it clearly resembles what I feel about the photo.
