It's a nice shot and I think you did well by placing the sun in the left third of the shot. The sky does look a bit underexposed to me, but your camera's meter had to take the bright sun into account. The sun would really be blown out if the sky was exposed correctly, so you had to choose one or the other. The only recommendation I have would be to recompose the shot so the sun is in the top third of the image vertically, not in the center. I'm trying to decide if it would look better in the top third or bottom third and I am leaning toward the top third.
I have never shot the moon, so I can't help you with that.

I think this is a great shot, very simple and self-explanatory. I agree with Krusty that placing the Sun in the upper third point would be better. I don't think the sky is underexposed, and the Sun is overexposed of course (it has to be). The tree is underexposed, but it's suppose to be as it is a silhouette. Also, there is a lot of banding visible in concentric circles around the Sun. I guess it was shot as a jpg, and shooting it in raw would probably help eliminate the banding.
