Default B&W Walkway

This is my very first post ever, so I apologize if I am clueless. I am a beginner photographer and really think this is a decent pic. Any suggestions on what I can do with the background since this reservoir is close to my home. Any suggestions on what to do to make the bridge stand out or composition

It's much easier to post if you upload the image to a site like Flickr and then copy the HTML code. (On Flickr just go to Share thisabove the image and then look for Grab the HTML/BBC code. If you copy that code and paste it into your post here on DPS, the image will show up when the viewer opens your post. You are much more likely to get responses if we can see the image right away.

Looking forward to seeing your image!

Ok.. You also need to post the exif data.. This is things like the camera's make and model, the lens used, the focal length, the speed and f-stop number.. All of this information may seem irrelevant at this stage to you, but as you learn to read your camera, you'll learn how it tells someone what changes you could have made to improve the photo.

Last thing you need to be aware of is that this is a critique section.. That means we're going to be looking for fault and were going to be critical. That doesn't mean we don't think you have it in you, we just want to offer advice to assist you in improving yourself.

As far as your photo goes, without the exif data, it's hard to comment on anything except content and composition. Your subject certainly lends itself to being photographed. I would suggest that you take a different angle so that you can get at least one end of the bridge in shot, perhaps moving closer to it so you have a tighter angle, and also perhaps kneeling so you are lower as it looks like the horizon is growing out of the rail. I've found that the most interesting photos are the ones that lend are taken from a view point that is not eye level. We are naturally interested in looking at things in a way we don't normally do.

Lastly, to help you learn more about what makes a good photo, I would suggest that you look through the critique sections.. Look at the picture initially, then read the request for comments, think about how you would answer, and see if other people agree.. That way you learn from others mistakes.. We'll soon have you taking photos that you will feel really proud of. :-)

Welcome to DPS forums.

+1 to what SwissJon mentioned about reading other peoples posts. I have only been on here about 3 weeks and the first week all I did was look at what other people posted and read what they were told about their pictures. You can learn a lot this way and if you post pictures you will be critiqued and sometimes severely, trust me I know.

Thank you for your comments and I have already started to review other people's photos and comments. Very interesting and shocked at how much I just did not know.
