Default First time

Okay, this is my first picture posted here and will be one of two. This is one of two trees in a field that I thought where interesting. This one is a tree that is actually one half very alive and well while it's other half not so much.... what do you think?
Taken with a Nikon D90 and a Nikor 55-200 Zoom lens
ISO 400, lens at 55mm, f/8 at 1/100 hand held
overcast day in FL

Half alive or half dead?

Please try and ask something specific that you want help with

Now, witht hat being said, wow whata great old tree!
I'd shoot this from a different angle. One so that the backgrounds are split in 2. Perhaps using the live trees as the background. Would make a nice contrast to the lighter dead wood.
Also try and keep the rule of thirds in mind. Usually having your main subject right in the middle will make it lose interest. Try placing it a more to one side than the other
