Anything I could do to improve it? All that was done was to reduce the clarity in Camera Raw. I liked the way that softened the whole effect. Anything else I tried just detracted from the mood.

Nice shot, I like the mostly monochrome with just the colour on the soil below the tree.

Do you have your exif info handy? Part of the tree looks slightly out of focus and knowing your camera settings could playa big part in helping you

Here's the exif: Camera: EOS Rebel T1i Lens: 18-55 kit lens ISO 400 Exposure 1/30 sec Aperture f9 (aperture priority) Focal length 28mm The soft focus is from reducing the clarity in Camera Raw in Elements. The actual shot was pretty crisp, considering the conditions and the fact that I'm still using the 18-55 kit lens that came with my T1i. With everything in sharp focus, it just didn't convey the somber mood of that foggy Christmas morning. As soon as I softened the clarity, the image just jumped at me.

Yes... no processing done except for the softening.

Blimey... That's an interesting picture then.. Looks almost as if you colour popped the field.
I had a play with a brightness and contrast in Photoshop, and while it changed the photo, I can't really find any setting that I would say is "better" than what you started with.. Different, yes, but not better.. I think the only thing I found that might improve the overal picture is a slight crop.. Reducing the border at the top and left hand side so it matches the the right hand side, and a crop at the bottom closer to the bottom of the second hedge, but that's purely a subjective change. I agree with 2 stroke about placing the tree at the left hand 1/3rd in a landscape.. But I'll bet it's changed since you took this.
