Default Canyon Shot (Composition?)

I took this shot from a moving train so I did not have any time for set-up. I like this photo but the water is blown out a bit. In a way, I find this interesting as it highlights the Tree. Does this work for you? Does having blown-out sections ever work?

Nikon D5000, Shutter: 1/250, F5.0, ISO 200, Focal Length 55mm, lens 55.00-200mm, Metering: Matrix

I do not believe I had a Polarizing or ND filter appilied. Would that have helped?

Hi there -

I totally think that having blown highlights can work in certain images, and I don't think that they are particularly distracting in this shot.

Compositionally, it is somewhat difficult for me to tell specifically what the intended subject was. Were you going for the water, trees, or something else?

I like the perspective, and taking the shot from a moving train...well...that's pretty nicely done!

Andrew, Thanks.

As far as composition, I agree, there is no specific subject per se. I suppose the water mostly because I really liked the color and contrast. Quite frankly, with the train moving, I was simply looking for scenary that seemed to jump out. In reality, this location (Durango/Silverton) train in southern Colorado U.S. is outstanding scenary. I highly recommend this trip for any photographer.
