Default B&W conversion

I'm NOT well versed with B&W. But upon the advice of someone else, I gave it a shot

it is a rather large shot so I'll post a link rather than use the image insertion here.

Some of my reasons for going black and white here were to add some drama to the shot. color would have been ok, but the lady who saw me with my camera suggested I try B&W. Why? she's the daughter of a professional photographer..I'm ALWAYS open to advice.
