I think the picture would have come out great if the rest of the frame was in focus and only the tram itself was showing the motion blur. I would really recommend you to try out the same shot again. Would love to see it

I would love to go back and reshoot it! Unfortunately I live on the east coast....just a little far! You guys bring up a point I am struggling with....the tripod dilemma. I shoot a lot on vacation and in settings where I don't want to bring a huge tripod, but I know they are really best to stabilize any image. That being said, they often kill the spontaneity (sp?) of moments like this and are a pain to put on. I am thinking of getting the gorilla pod for SLRs with the quick release ball head....anyone have it? I do want to get more tack sharp photos but I don't want to mess with a big, cumbersome tripod.

Hi, I agree with theothers about the focus but understand your problem with tripods. I bought a nice manfrotto with a ball head but I don't always feel comfortable taking it with me. I think I'd be especially conscious of using it stood somewhere like the middle of a street in San Fransisco. A gorrilla pod might be a good idea that I might also consider, however another option that's been suggested to me was a bean bag. You can buy them specially for photography (around £20.00 in the UK), you could place it on the floor, on a wall or anywhere and snuggle your camera onto it to give it a steady platform to allow you to remove your hands for the shot.
Now I've not bought one myself yet so I can't say how valuable a tool it would be but I'm considering it for taking on long walks or even holidays where I will already have a lot to carry ie Mt Kilimanjaro which I climbed last year. If anyone else has tried or even owns a bean bag maybe they can comment....good idea or not ? Kind Regards
