Default Lake and Reflection

Lake

Taken with my General Imagine Co. X5.

I'm still learning about composition. How is the composition, in your opinion, of this picture?

Thanks.

I really like this picture a lot. The lines of the shore are great. Was it possible to wait a few moments and perhaps capture the water completely still? I think that could have made this a more powerful image since the sky is a perfect blue with that wonderful wispy cloud. It would be wonderful to see this area when the green returns as well

Yes, I really like the cloud in this picture as well. Thanks; I'll take another picture of this place when everything is green. I agree, maybe the picture would've been good without the small waves.

Nice capture.
The best thing -- shore lines.

There's some potential here.

Unfortunately, you caught this at the wrong time of the day. Try returning here just at sunrise, or at sunset, and see what kind of light you get then. I guarantee you that change alone will make all the difference.

Also, compositionally, I think things could be improved if you had some foreground interest like a rock, pair of sandals, etc... It's not much but it adds a lot. Keep shooting!

Looks great- I like the contrast of the diagonals versus the straight lines. The combination of the blues and the yellows are also extremely refreshing. Where was this shot taken?

To add to EOBeav's comments - I think you need some foreground interest and a more compelling sky to take this one up a notch. The vast majority of great landscape shots were taken near sunrise/sunset. This will give you softer light and if there are clouds, a more interesting sky.

Also, it helps to have a definite subject, or focal point in your image that you want to lead the viewer's eye towards. I'm not sure if it's the water or sky in this case.

This guy does a good job of that - Flickr: Buck Forester's Photostream

I agree that this needs something of interest in the foreground. Also, the horizon is pretty much dead center of the photo. That's something I'm working on too, trying to be aware of what is in the ROT areas.

Thanks for all the constructive comments!

It was shot at Standley Lake in Colorado.

I agree, something in the foreground would make it better. There wasn't anything in the foreground to take a picture of, but I will definitely make that a priority next time.

Thanks for all your help! Any other comments would be great!
