Default Minimal HDR snowscape

My question on this, is the tonal quality and composition of this image. Are the tones reasonable front to back and what if anything would you change regarding the composition

A Cold Christmas Eve

Taken with Nikon D70s, layered 3 exposures to get tones throughout, from sunset to foreground. Minimal sharpening. Nikkor 18-70mm f3.8-5.6 lens. On tripod

Good job keeping HDR to "real" levels. I think the tones are pretty good, though I might bump saturation a bit to see if the evergreens would pop out just a bit more. Composition is good, but I'm not positive that there's a main subject (beyond the landscape itself).

Thank you David. This was taken in fairly low light so not a lot of "green" in the evergreens available, and as for main subject, just the landscape itself. Oh, and the evergreens are blue spruce so not really green at all

This has some potential. For me, it was taken with the sun too high in the sky. Try doing it again just at sunrise or just at sunset (can't tell from this pic). You'll be amazed at the difference time of day can make.

In landscape photography, when you shoot is more important than where you shoot.

My first reaction was that there isn't enough detail in the sky. The sky almost looks a bit washed out, like it blends in a bit too much. Perhaps that's what you were looking for. I would agree though that this was taken when the sun was too high in the sky.

thank you both for your input. The shot was taken at sunset. Clouds moved just at the wrong time. Was way too cold to wait for different light though! Going to try again some evening when the light is better and the temps aren't below zero
