Default Red Barn

I'm new to photography, and I'm loving it. I read informational photography books and take at least one picture everyday. This is my first landscape photo. Can anyone give me tips on how to make it better....composition or anything? I took this photo with my Canon Rebel t1i, 55-250 mm lens. No flash, ISO 100, f/4 1/320sec. I used my 55-250mm lens because the barn sits in the back of the property and I didn't want to trespass.

Thanks,
jennifer1kelley

Not bad. I'd like to see the same shot zoomed out just a bit more -- I think the thing that draws my eye to this photo is the red of the barn against the grey background, and a little more background might frame the barn even better. Did you do any post-processing on this picture? I might take a quick look at the white balance -- the red in the barn seems to have sort of a fuchsia cast to it.

Yes, I played with the image in Photoshop CS5. I'm a painter by trade and wanted the barn to have a more "painted" red look to it. It was very cold, and very gray here today. I used the cloudy setting on my camera but the red just looked too muddy for my taste. I also did some cropping because of ugly electric poles. I guess I could of gotten rid of them in photoshop.

Thanks for your suggestions and advice.

I would also like to see this zoomed out some so that I can see the entire barn. It feels a bit cut off now. I was also going to suggest moving in closer and using a smaller aperture, but then I remembered you had to shoot this from a distance.

I like the composition as is, personally. I think its a great shot- I like that the red of the barn has an almost desaturated look to it (but still enough vibrancy to add to the contrast). I feel the overall look helps the viewer to feel that coldness that you described. TFS.

Default Red barn

Krusty,

Thanks for your feedback. I actually had the whole barn....but cropped it because of an unsightly electrical pole. I'll play around with the raw image in photoshop and see if I can remove the pole without cropping the barn. I hated to crop the barn, too!

I'll probably try to get back out to the barn next week and try it again. Thanks.
