Default First DSlr Winter Scene

Took this at a lake by my house. I just got my Pentax K-x for Christmas. Previously I used a SX10 from Canon I really like it due to its versatility. Any way... How is the overall picture composed? I was not sure where to put the bench relative to the lake. Also there was a lot of fog coming off the lake and I could not really capture it as I saw it. How could I get the fog to stand out from the snow?

I think that the photo would have been better served with the lake being the subject; as opposed the bench. Maybe take a few steps back and recompose for the lake.

Also watch out for the elements that creep into the photo, like the branches on the righ of the photo.
