Default Colorado Mountain

Howdy! This is my first post on DPS.
I love photography and just upgraded to a DSLR camera and used it for the first time on our trip to Colorado last week. I am very interested in learning to take better landscape pictures and portraits. This picture was shot from the side of the road just inside Colorado coming from Texas. The mountains looks straight but the rest looks a little crooked. Not sure?? The only post processing I did in GIMP was uped the contrast and saturation and also warmed it up a little. Thanks for any advise!!!!

Welcome to DPS. The moderators want you to ask for feedback on specific topics like composition or exposure when you post in the Critique section. That being said, I think you have a decent shot there, but there is just too much range for your camera to capture accurately. If you learn to read the histogram in your camera, you'll see most of the pixels are concentrated at the lightest and darkest ends of the range. It's a common problem in landscape shots, especially if you shoot in the middle of the day. Your camera sensor cannot capture the dynamic range from the white snow to the dark trees like you eye can (see how detail is lost in the dark areas?).

What you can do is shoot closer to dawn/dusk to reduce the dynamic range or take multiple exposures for the light/dark areas and blend them or use HDR software to merge them. Unfortunately, that bright snow in winter makes it a challenge to take shots with dark areas.
