First post and First photo for Critique... Taken with a D40 and Kit Lens at Sunset on the White River in Arkansas. This is quite possibly the shot that spurred me on to Nature & Outdoor Photography as a passion, so please don't be too harsh

Welcome k2prostudio, great first post.
I love your composition and subject as such. Its intelligent and intriguing ![]() Only major observation is that the spider's web could do with more definition ...keeping the sun where it is (which is not bad at all) has washed out a lot of the web.. can you do some salvaging to darken the background and perhaps make the web stand out more. If you let us know what your Exposure info (such as focal length, shutter speed, aperture and ISO values), we can possibly help you better with improving the image you have posted and also advise on what can be taken into account the next time you are onto a similar situation. Thanks in advance.

Welcome k2prostudio,
I'm still new here as well, and to photography in general, but I can try to offer you some advice. I agree with S_Sanyal that the composition here is amazing, great job. The only confounding factor here is the brightness of the sun, as was said above, that makes establishing a contrast between the web and the background difficult. This is why spider webs are, traditionally, shot in front of a darker background. Despite the lack of contrast I still think you have a great photo here... keep up the good work! Also, check out How to Photograph a Spider’s Web for tips on photographing spider webs... may find some of the tips helpful. |

I like the composition but I think this is one of those shots if you waited for the sun to set a little more you would have had brilliant results.
Nice Job

![]() Of course you would need to see the original meta data to know how to make it better! Thanks for the tips thus far, hope this helps, although by posting this I truly open myself up to people knowing that I am really clueless here! Gulp! but, you dont get better by continuing to do things wrong. Thanks in advance for whatever light you can shed on this process for me.
