Default Along the New Orleans Riverwalk

I participated in the After Dark Photography conference in New Orleans at the beginning of November. Went on some solo Photo walks in the mornings prior to the start of the conference and I spied this building and just loved its lines. In post production, I fixed levels, upped the saturation and put some unsharp mask on it (perhaps a bit too much, though I think I like the effect.) Hoping for some honest but gentle critique. Thanks for looking!

the lines on the buildings are fantastic! great angle and shadows as well. IMO the tree at right of the image is distracting and too dark.

I know...I agree..but I couldn't get around that because the walk didn't alllow me to get closer...there was a trolley line right beyond where I was standing...aaargh...but I LOVED the building!!

I agree that the tree on the right makes the overall image a little unbalanced... I wonder if you couldn't fix that with a gradient filter in post-processing? I actually seem to run into this same problem really often and I use the gradient filter in Lightroom to either lighten or darken the pic as needed. But maybe that's cheating - I'm new here, so don't know much. I love love love the building, though; great capture

There's probably not a lot you can do after the event but it might be worth considering for next time, what it is you want to say about the building.
If its the building you want to photograph then get rid of the extraneous stuff like the tree and concentrate on getting a good descriptive image of the building.
If its the angles and line, get closer and emphasise some part of the building which shows this aspect well.
If its the contrast between the free form of the tree and the solid structure of the building, include more detail of the tree.
Interesting objects don't make good photographs. Photographers make good photographs of interesting things. Do the work. Know why you are taking the picture and work with that.
