Is the subject too bright?
EXIF f/3.5 ISO 100 shutter 0.5 secs I underexposed the background by 2 stops and then used an off camera flash angled at down camera right shooting up at my subject. I believe I stopped down one stop the flash as well. I post processed and tone mapped the image to give a little more contrast between light and shadow. |

I like the lighting in your shot. But I'm not quite sold on the composition. I'm not quite sure what the statue is hauling (coal?) and I don't see the connection to the art shop which you've made quite significant in the composition. I feel like the photo is trying to tell me a story but I'm not getting it.

Thanks for the comment.
I left the image open to interpretation. I once learned in a literature class that all forms of art, once it leaves the artist and is for public display, is open to interpretation regardless what the artist had in mind. Granted, the artist can do things to help guide the viewer towards a particular story or subject but ultimately, the viewer makes the story. That's what I tried to do here in this photo. I tried presenting the main subject (the statue with a mystery cargo) alog with a background (street and art studio) and left he rest up for viewer interpretation. I guess the story is what you make of it. |
