Default In the middle of nowhere

In the middle of nowhere

Not actually, 'coz there were plenty of tourists with us on a boat visiting the islands at Maya Bay in Phuket, Thailand. I know the horizon is atilt as we were on a moving boat. I cropped the right edge of the shot to give it more symmetry and focus on the gap between the two islands where the speedboats were. It was a very bright day at noon time so I know I should have been more careful about my settings.

The sea was so green (or blue ? pardon me 'coz I am afraid I am a bit color-blind). I have just started trying my hand at Photoshop and was afraid of ruining colors so I just adjusted the vibrancy. Comments about the settings, composition and everything (including the PP I've done) are welcome. Thanks.

Canon EOS 500D
Focal Length: 21 mm
Exposure: 1/200
Aperture: 6.38
F number: 1/9
Exposure Program: Program
Shutter Speed: 7.63
ISO: 100

The water is definitely green. I actually looks to be the shade of glacial waters I've seen in the Canadian Rockies due to rock flour carried down that refracts the light that way; names like "Emerald Lake" etc.

But anyway, this image tends to lead the viewer through the gap between the two large mounds, I think, wanting to go through that gap and see what is beyond.

One thing that I am thinking about and haven't decided upon is whether it might have been better if the mounds were clipped on the shadow end so as to be sillouette or vice versa with less clipping and more detail on the shadow.

I guess I'm inclined to think the former would be better, but I'd probably have to see both.

In any case, I showed this to my wife and she absolutely loved it as is. So there you go!

I have to admit I completely missed the point of this image initally.

"In the Middle of Nowhere"

That is itself a zen koan in an image format. Forget about the picture. That itself could shock you into being awake! If, that is, you are paying attention at all.

I missed it, and I apologize. I'm asleep too mostly.

Yes. That finally recognized, , this picture, especially with the boats in it in that gap, takes on new meaning. LMAO

No wonder my wife reacted more stongly to this than I did initially. She is more intuitive than I am.

Looks like a scene from LOTR. I would love to see what a circular polarizer could do for a shot like this.

Thank you, CJ, for pulling this one out of oblivion. I've given up trying to watch out for comments on this months ago. You baffled me though about the Zen Koan, so I have to google it.

Thank you, once again, CJ, and please thank your wife for me, as well, for liking this picture.

LOL, I happen to like that movie. My CPL is on its way. Thanks for making a comment, EOBeav.
