I know the focus could have been better, the ground was soft and the tripod moved when I stepped away. My question is should I have used more or less sky? I wanted to show the amazing view I was seeing but couldn't decide on the composition.
Camera - Nikon D5000 fstop - f/4.2 exposure time - 30.9sec ISO - 1000

If your subject was the sky then more sky. There isn't really a strong subject as framed. Perhaps moving the house on the right to the very bottom of the frame might have improved things a bit. You also might try lowering the camera to near-ground-level and shooting up to get more of the sky while still keeping the house in the scene.

I think you should have moved your subject closer to the center. Sky or no sky, it doesn't matter without a well placed subject.
Spooky house though; it would make a great subject.
