Default Street scene

Took this out of the car. Not quite sure if I like the edit and crop. already straightened/rotated it due to the way the picture was taken.

Camera Model = Canon EOS 30D
Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 1/50 second ===> 0.02 second
Lens F-Number / F-Stop = 18/10 ===> ƒ/1.8

ISO Speed Ratings = 1600
Metering Mode = spot (3)

Firstly you don't have the whole car in the frame. Second, the dumpster is more in the foreground than the car. Third, what about the car were you trying to bring out? It looks like background element for a subject that I can't find.

I'm marking you down for shooting from a moving car.

Who said I wanted the car to stand out?
I wanted to show the scene in its entirety. The overflowing dumpster, the old run down car, the simple houses... Well, guess didn't work out.

@EOBeav, I have an entire series, shot over weeks, just doing this, mainly because you don't want to walk most places at night here.

You need to ask a specific question when posting in the critique section,
without knowing what you wanted help with I will give you my two cents.

The scene doesnt work at all for me. Its too grainy (1600 iso will do that), there is no focal point, too busy, the poles in the middle act as a barrier and are very distracting. I have to agree that the car being cut off doesnt flow very well.

What was your main objective for shooting this scene? What was it that interested you about this scene? I would have focused in on the part you liked. Maybe crop this down even more to where the poles are, make it simpler

Sorry, but it looks to me like a snapshot of a dumpster the way you have it centered in the shot. It's hard to compose a shot the way you want if you're limited to shooting from the car.

As mentioned, my main issue is the way I cropped it. (Tried another one, closer)

What interested me was the scene itself, the mood, the combination of the overflowing dumpster, joined with the old car and the, for non Brazilian standards, shitty houses. It all gives it a depressed, sad, slightly creepy look.

PS: Pixel peeping @ the internet, Iso 1600 prints just fine, it does not all to well on the Internet, but it does print well, I printed ISO 3200 no problem.

I tried another crop, but now it focuses a bit too much on the car and the scenery steps back.

@Krusty, I know about the limitations of shooting from the car, that is why I go pretty wide angle usually with a 30mm (This time I opted for 50mm, which on a crop cam is not really wide, but for the distance it works and I was actually hunting for people that day, thus the slight tele) and then crop it down. The main issue I run in is AF/Lightmetering vs. composition but normally I'm fine, I just have a problem with this one shot.

I know what you were going for, but that is really difficult to get. I think you should have went for focusing on some specific portion.
