Default NY - Radio City Music Hall

Hello everybody,

First, this is my first post on DPS so let me introduce myself. I'm in the mid twenty and I live in Canada, Quebec. I'm an amateur photographer, and I take photos on occasionally. I don't have any subject I prefer over another; I just take in picture what I like.

So... about the photo I want you to critique...

I went in New York to see the Lord of the Ring The Two Tower complete soundtrack live on the film. I was a great show! Next year, I'll be there for the next edition: The Return of the King.

Just after the show, I went outside on the opposite side of the road to have the best view on that monument of NY. I climbed on a flower pot to be above the crowd and took that pictures in speed priority mode.

I would like if someone could critique the composition and the colour of this picture (or any other thing).

Thanks

Jean-Pierre

I think its a pretty good photo, but something I think that could take it to a GREAT photo is if you used a tripod and did a bit long time exposure. If you had the building nice and sharp with light blurs on the street it would give more of a feeling of a buzzing city street.

Also, I see you shot at 800 iso. If you put that lower and did a longer exposure you would get the above effect with less noise.

I totally understand the difficulty of shooting at that spot specifically because of the traffic, but one must do what one must do if one wants to get the photo that one desires.

Also, it's kind of in that unhappy middle ground where it looks like it could use some lens correction and where lens correction could hurt the photo.

Also, crop out the pole on the right hand side, it adds nothing and is distracting.

Motion blur would be an interesting touch and make a much different photo. This one turned out pretty well as is. I don't care for the heads at the very bottom of the frame. Might want to crop a little tighter and eliminate those.

To Cola,
This is exactly what I was thinking! But I prefere to travel light during vacation and specialiy when you are going to see a show. Also, on the original picture there is not a much noise. I think there is noise because I have compressed the picture to much

To curelightwounds and Michael 2010,
Your advices need a try!

Thanks!

Sorry haha it kind of came out wrong. I mentioned the ISO not meaning that your photo was overly noisy, I was suggesting that if you did decide to to do a long time exposure with ISO 800, it could make for a noisy photo and you may end up with the lights being blown out and losing detail there.

A lower ISO would give you a more clear photo and allow you to do a longer exposure to allow motion to streak properly while having your stationary subjects that have lights not blow out.
