Hi everyone,
Any comments/thoughts on how I could improve this image would be appreciated. It was shot in sepia mode with my Nikon D3000 on Thanksgiving under cloudy/snowy conditions... 18 mm ISO 200, 1/100 sec. f3.5... Thanks! |

shots like this are OK, but you walk away saying you neither like it, or dislike it. It almost needs something to draw your eye into it...maybe more of a point of interest or subject. Sometimes you're better off shooting a small detail area of a scene like this than the overall

Don't be afraid to move in on a shot like this and get an angle of just the wheel, perhaps with it filling your entire frame. I wouldn't have included the tree and sky in this shot.
Also, regarding sepia: Shoot in color first, then convert it to sepia later on so you can do it to your liking. If you're just starting out, I've found that Picasa has some decent editing tools. Also, this could use a boost in contrast.

And my guess if your shooting sepia, that you're trying to get a vintage feel. If so, make it authentic. Maybe add a little grain?

Also achievable in Picasa. :-)
