Default Kuta Beach Sunset

I would like your opinions on this picture I took some years ago. I know I’ve divided the frame in two with the horizon, but I personally think is a good picture. Please advise if you agree with me or if any cropping or other alterations could be made to improve this picture. Thanks.

To me, more important than the horizon, is the dual subjects of the (partial) tree and whatever that is on the right. A step or two to the left would have let you eliminate the subject on the right and let us see more of the palm tree. Also, and I know you don't have any control over this (other than to be patient), but I'd rather see only one or two people in the image.

It's a nice sunset, but I agree with EOBeav about that thing (plant?) on the right. It looks like you tried to use it to help frame the shot, but it doesn't work as nicely as the palm leaves. Also, I think the people sitting on the beach distract a bit from the sunset colors.

For these type of shots, it helps if you can find a little stream/creek that leads to the ocean, as it creates a great leading line to lead the viewer's eye to the subject (sunset) and you might get some cool reflections off the water. I don't know if there was one around you then, though.

yeah, i was trying to use the plants in the forground to frame the shot, i like your suggestion of using a stream to lead into the picture, unfortunately there was only a large sandy beach. This was just a quick snap that i took while heading out one night...i still like the shot, thanks for all comments. Hopfully i'll take better pics in the future.
