Default Sun Bridge at Dusk

Nikon D40
Exposure 1/1000
Aperture f/3.5
Focal Length 18mm
ISO Speed 200
Exposure Bias -1/3 EV

I am a beginner trying to find her way through apertures, shutter speeds, and ISOs. Very nervous to put my pictures out there, but here goes...

What do you think I could have done to have this picture make you say, "Wow"?

Thanks!

First welcome to DPS,

Try to put the picture on the page rather than the link because some people won't take the time to open the link.

I think you have a nice leading line into the picture and the colors are nice too. The lighting could be better but it is really hard to manage a harsh sun like what you have here. Try to take the pictures a bit earlier in the morning or later before sun sets. (what is called the golden hour)

I agree. The highlights are a little blown out.

I like the composition, however; nice job!

Welcome to the forum. I like the concept and composition of the shot. Like the others said, the dynamic range is too great for your camera to capture in the bright sunlight. So, I would also suggest taking the shot closer to the golden hours and I think it would help if you could see someone walking down the boardwalk. I do see some people at the end of the walk, but they are so small, they get lost in the image.

Is it just me, or is the horizon lower on the left side of this shot?
