Default View just South of Alturus, CA

This is a shot I took a couple months back at a viewing area just south of Alturus, CA. It is nice around that area as they have a lot of wildlife especially waterfowl and other birds.

I thought I would put this up to see what people felt about the overall composition of this shot and how well it holds interest and any thought on how to possibly improve on the composition of a shot like this.

Thanks,
Mike

Model: NIKON D80
ISO: 400 (usually I would have used a lower ISO, I was shooting some wildlife at 500mm and I think I prob had the ISO at 400 to get a faster shutter speed for the longer focal length hand held)
Exposure: 1/640 sec
Aperture: 9.0
Focal Length: 100mm

A nice quite scene, I find my eye wanders around the picture a bit but always comes back to the animals. TFS

Thanks for the comment, I think that is about the same effect it is having on me.

That's a nice scene. I will also assume the deer are your subject because of the composition and the fact that my eye is drawn to them. I think cropping a little of the water will bring more attention to the deer. The colors also look a little flat, probably because it was overcast. I think you can use pick the white/black points or bump up the saturation to give the colors more "pop."

You ever make it down to Lassen/Burney Falls?

My wife is from Burney, actually, and keeps telling me she wants to take me to the falls there sometime. Hopefully not to throw me over them, though. :-)

Oh, and the picture here....Yeah, I think crop as suggested, boost your contrast, and you probably have a nice shot.

Beautiful scenery! Sure is a lot going on in that one frame. I'm not sure if that is good or bad. I agree with the others about bumping up the color and contrast. A slight adjustment with curves would probably do the trick.
