Default First processed shot with the new Nik HDR software

I originally had this posted in "share your shots" but after about 70 hits with absolutely no comments I realized it was in the wrong section. ( I hope that was the case) I was surprised that no-one commented on it. Not for the picture itself but the fact that it was from the new NIK software. I thought that I would get a discussion regarding the software. Anyway here it is again. It was seven exposures, using a 17-55 f2:8 Nikon lens on a tripod. ISO was 100 and FL @ 35mm and a 2 sec. delay on shot. I personally like the fact that it does not look like a HDR. This program is amazing for all types of shots.

What do the originals look like?

The HDR effect is rather subtle, so it is hard to see what was gained by merging so many captures.

I agree with Michael that it's hard to see what was gained. But, I don't agree that the effect subtle. There's plenty that's lost, however. In HDR, for example, I'd expect to see some shadow detail on the right bank. The sky is ugly as sin and quite distracting. In fact, IMHO, I believe that an otherwise nice composition is ruined by all the super color processing which makes everything so busy. I regret saying that you photographed a pretty scene that may have merit, but is lost in your processing.

I took a second look at your "original" in flickr.
You cannot make an HDR of a moving subject. You get all kinds of artifacts. There was, obviously, wind.
I would suggest you take the single image taken between -2/3-1 f-stop underexposed and process that one.

Why would you shoot the 17-55mm DX on a D700? You own the 24-70mm!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who the hell gives you the right to question what lens I use. Also little man this is a site for critiquing not slandering. “The sky is ugly as sin “Grow up. man. If you cannot follow the rules of the game and respond as a mature individual just keep you mouth shut. Also if you have any more words of wisdom regarding my photography I will be glad to give you my address so you can say them to my face.

No need to shout. I regret offending you by using the idiom "ugly as sin." You asked for critique. I gave MY opinion, and very honestly. I spent a lot of my time viewing your photographs on flickr. You don't have to agree with me, but you did ask! If you can't accept criticism, there are places on this forum where you will get plenty of "atta boys." On the other hand, maybe with the "70 hits and absolutely no comments," there was a reason.

I stand by my opinion. I like your original composition but I believe it is ruined in post-processing. Instead of threatening me, perhaps you might put in a complaint to the moderator of this section and let that person review this thread and make a decision.

Posting in critique gives the right. It was a suggestion, that's a better lens..

That was a little over the top. Why would anyone ask for critique and then blow a fuse when someone critiqued the work?

Maybe this is one of those "teachable moments" I've heard so much about. If your skin is so thin that you can't take criticism, then don't ask for it!

I did find that comment on the sky being "ugly as sin" pretty damn rude. Tamcry seemed pretty proud of this shot and the pp work... you could of gave the critique without that comment you made. I mean thats probably why he reacted that way.

He was just injecting a little humor, that should be obvious. There are serious issues with the sky.
