Default Bottom of the Rock

Taken from the skating rink at the bottom of Rockefeller Center. Also taken blind (just held the camera out). Straightened it a little bit with Aperture 3.0. Used a Canon EOS T2i with a Sigma 10mm 1:2.8.

Nice shot! Is there something about it that you are not happy about, or do you just want some general input?

I'm just looking for comments and thoughts on anyway I might improve it. The only thing I would have liked to different is impossible. I would have liked to have been deeper, so that the curvature of the buildings would have brought them closer together at the top. But, I did recreate the shot at night.

The night shot is a lot more dramatic.

You might be able to use digital lens distortion to pull in the top of the buildings. Otherwise, you would have to buy a specialized lens.

I like the night one better too. Both are really neat perspectives though...

...the only thing I could suggest, is maybe go out and recreate it again in HDR when there's some interesting cloud formations in the sky, or at sunset/sunrise when there'd be some interesting colored lighting on the clouds.

Hehe, I've taken almost exactly the same shot myself.

Night shot is good, might work better in B&W.

Jeez, that should be my bumper sticker: 'RecurrentNerve does it in black and white.'

Interesting train of thought. Does DPS have T-Shirts? Something like "Do It in the RAW" or "It's a RAW Deal" "Clickit Till It's RAW"

Who said "There's nothing new under the sun."? Here I was thinking I did something original.

Well, I had a few minutes while my wife scooted around the rink. I'd never skated before but gamely strapped on a pair of blades. I managed to get a quarter of the way round, legs all over the place, while holding on to the side, then decided a broken leg was not the best way to spend a trip to NYC and so went back, via another guy who was doing the same thing

So anyway, I had a few minutes so naturally looked up at the Rock and thought, 'That's a nice photo'. If it makes you feel any better yours is a much better shot as it looks like you were in the middle of the rink, I was off to the side! I did get a cool shot of the GE Building which I stitched together later though.
