Default Summer sunset

August 2010

I took this photo while vacationing this summer. I love the photo but am wondering if the boat on the bottom right is taking away from the photo. Also, are the colors OK or would increasing the saturation help with the feel of the photo?

Exif:
Camera Nikon D60
Exposure 1/40
Focal Length 18mm
ISO 200
Aperature f3.5
No flash

The colors look really nice to me, and I think that I'd like to actually see more of the boat/dock.

Having clear fore, middle, and background components really helps make an image (and particularly a landscape image) pop, IMHO.

Nice shot; it's definitely pleasing to look at and makes me want to get out of this computer chair and go outside!

I like this photo as is. You could try upping the saturation a bit, see how it looks but don't overdo it. I think that the colours the way they are give it a nice peaceful mood. I wouldn't take the boat out either, if you crop out the boat you end up with the jetty 'floating' in from the side whereas here it looks anchored with being able to see a little of the shore. And cropping out the jetty altogether takes too much away from the scene.

Thanks to both of you for your opinions. I had never thought of the shore acting as an anchor in an image, but it makes total sense.

I quite like the picture as is. I wouldnt take the boat out of the picture. Maybe you could add some clarity in the picture (if you are using lightroom that is, not sure how to do that using other pp softwares). Good job. I like it!
