Default Should the tree stay?

Camera = Olympus E-600
Exposure Time = 1/160 sec.
FNumber = f/5.0
ISO Speed Ratings = 200
Exposure Bias = -1.00 EV
Metering Mode = Spot
Flash = Flash did not fire, auto mode
Focal Length = 40.0 mm

What are your thoughts on this image? Specifically, I'm wondering if you think that the tree that is above the stela's head should have been removed via composition (or now via PS).

I can't seem to decide whether I like it or not. At times I think it gives some more depth to the shot, but at other times it is growing right out of his head.

Of course, any other critiques that you may have are also welcome!

Thanks!

I think you're probably right.

I have edited the image. Thoughts anyone?

Thanks!

i think it definitely looks better without the tree. Kinda wondering what the shot would look like with a larger aperture for a shallower DOF also.

Another vote for the version w/o the tree.

Yeah, I wish I had taken a couple of shots with a shallower DOF (at least just to compare the two). My thinking at the time was to make sure the ruins in the back were still in focus enough to be ruins and not just a pile of rocks. I probably still could have achieved this with a smaller F.
