Landscapes are hard. This image has a lot going for it; The scenery is striking and the lighting is dramatic, yet the overall image doesn't quite make the cut. There are some small technical issues, but I think the real problem is that the composition is weak. Sorry, but placing the horizon right down the middle of the frame almost never works. The key to great landscapes is often the same as selling real estate, "location, location, location."

Oh, I'm aware of the rule of thirds when it comes to horizons - it was just a matter of having to take a shot quickly while winding around ridiculous hairpin bends on very narrow roads - I wasn't driving obviously, but the views changed so quickly, I didn't really have time to compose properly. The bottom third is consequently road and crash barrier which obviously had to be cropped out - I guess I could try adding in some sky artificially. Watch this space.
