Hi guys. I tried taking a photo of a butterfly. I know you are supposed to use a macro lens, but I don't have one. But I tried.
![]() Anything you feel is wrong with the shot? ![]() Thank you. ![]() EXIF Data: Shutter Speed: 1/200 seconds ISO: 400 Aperture: f/5.6

lovely butterfly....i love them.....i would try using f2.8 or f3.2 to blur out the grasses blocking the butterfly....for me, it is hard shooting them with a macro lens as they are fast and fly alot...i use my 70-200 lens at f2.8 thru f5 and a shutter speed of 100 and upwards to capture their moving wings and to get more focus on the insect by blurring out the greenery around them...also, sometimes if i'm shooting upwards and the sun is behind the insect, i will use my on-camera flash to fill in and accentuate the butterfly...these are techniques that have worked for me...there are a few on my flikr account you can look at.....these are just suggestions as every situation is different....so keep clicking and experimenting and see what works for you....good luck and good job.....

I'd probably like to see the butterfly less centered in the frame. By placing it right in the middle you effectively split the image into two sides and if makes those two sides compete with each other for prominence, when the photo is actually about the butterfly. By placing the subject off center, you create a more dynamic, off balance composition that gives the eye a pathway to move around and explore the image.

Good photo. For me the green blur in the upper left is a little distracting.
