Default Wollaton Hall, Nottingham

01-09-2010 (57)

Exif:

F/stop 7.1
Shutter 1/100
Focal length 18mm
Shot with Programmable AE
Using polarized filter

I liked this picture overall but closer examination it does look a tad dark around the bottom of the picture, not sure it works that well.

What could be done to improve the overall quality of the colour of the picture?
Any other feedback would be cool too

Had to look at this one as I grew up close to Wollaton Hall. Many happy days spent there. Is the bear still there?

Would a bit of fill light in RAW do the job and up the blacks if necc? (V new to pp so I hope I am not giving you a bum steer!)

It would look good in B&W with lots of contrasting shadows?

From a viewers perspective, I would like to see the top of the building and less tree space on the right (ie you lying down to look up - ho ho). Failing that, the angle feels a bit awkward. Using the right tower on the third line would a crop using a straight horizon further improve it?

Thanks for the memories!

The bear is still alive - well not quite alive - and well, but has gone through a few changes in the main hall, some not for the better in my opinion. I love Wollaton park, I go at least once a week for a walk and taking a few pictures.

Will have a play with it a bit more in RAW, I think I still have the RAW file of it.

I was trying for an angle which was unique, but I see what you mean about part of the tower missing, next time I go to Wollton Hall I think I will focus on the main hall and take a few shots from different angles, see which ones work and which ones don't. Just need the weather to stay nice for a little longer.

I agree about the angle, but I don't think it is the shooting angle that's the problem, just that there are no clean verticals in the image - usually you need one vertical line in one of the towers to make it a little more pleasing - and yes, the top of the tower would be good.

I don't really have a problem with the exposure - unless you go HDR then you would lose some of the blue sky if you increased it much more.

Thanks for the feedback, I think trying to shot the Hall from a different perspective wasn't the best idea - going to go back and try something different I think.

Thanks for the feedback, always welcome.
