Default Framed Willow

I was concentrating on the water, the fence and reflection when I took the shot. I didn't notice the willow and the leaning trees until I loaded it in the computer. After a crop and slight PP adjustments I think I looks pretty good. Looking for comments.

1/200 f/5.6 iso 200 aperture priority.

Could you elaborate on the composition? Here is the original:

What could I have done better? Is there really anything there?

Know what..?? i think the original one looks better.. I can see the whole scene. The eyes are lead in to the frame and made to wander deeper to the fence, hill and background.

I am by no means an expert, but I agree with Wal. The original shot is more pleasing to me. I love the way the creek leads my through the shot and up into the fence, willow and hill. I like the contrasting green of the grass in the foreground too.

I agree. The orginal photo is much stronger.

Another vote for the original shot. It's actually really nice, and I'm glad that you posted it.

You're able to see the subject in context of the entire scene, and there is enough room for the eyes to explore the scene and move around as they view the different elements of the image. You also have some real depth in subject matter here, from the water, to the leaning trees to the fence willow branches in the background.

And, your framing has included some very dynamic and appealing lines that help lead the viewer's eye around the photograph.

Even though it's often tempting to zoom in, sometimes, that causes you to lose important elements of the scene that help make it an overall better photograph.

I too like the original crop, Reed. However, I would probably darken the foreground “frame” in order to make the willow more of a focal point.

Yeah I think the original is a great photo. Maybe cut out just a little of the foreground, but that is just me. Good job.

OK then. I cropped it because the foreground is pretty soft. Thanks for all the remarks.

Heading to Boston for a week tomorrow. I hope to get some good ones there to post.
