Default Dining decay

This dining hall was damaged by a major fire in April and work is underway to restore the listed building to its former glory.

This photo was taken yesterday in the Dining Hall in the early afternoon.

I used the Lab Colour method to convert the original image to black and white. I then pasted the original over the top and changed the layer type to overlay and set the opacity at 100% to give it a rather darker feel. It has resulted in the windows becoming burned out though. I do like how the light falls away suddenly as you get closer to the camera.

You can see the original image (straight out of the camera) here

I'm wondering about the crop. Should it be cropped tighter? Perhaps I should have brushed out the light object in the foreground. What about the windows...? Does it bother you that they're burned out? What about the crop on the ceiling joists so that they shoot off the picture rather than stop short?

Thanks for looking.

I've edited the post. I hope it now complies with the guidelines :-)

To answer Vivarant's question, my job includes undertaking site inspections of construction work. I had been outside taking progress photos in the bright sun so had set the white balance accordingly. I forgot to change it to something more suitable. However, I do believe it works for this shot.
