Default Nighttime shot at the beach

I wanted to see if you guys had an idea of how to make this shot better. I wanted to get a lower angle, but then I would be risking it against the seaspray. As it was, I pretty much had to wipe the lens after every other shot.

This was a shot that I took when I first really started picking up my camera again, and it's only 10 minutes away and I was thinking about trying to retake this shot.

Oceanside Pier

Like the shot, maybe a lower position (EDIT: ops, should read the text first and not just post) and maybe a bit more space for the "power of the ocean"... otherwise it is a nice picture. AFAIC

The exposure and effect came out lovely, but composition wise, I think it could be much stronger. You have essentially split the scene in half, only diagonally, which is more dynamic, but could be much more interesting with emphasis on either the sea, or the rocks.
Also, the little piece of flat rock in the lower right corner could be probably stand to be cropped out, but since you live close by, I would encourage you to reshoot.
I wouldn't toss this image, as the light hitting the rocks is really perfect, I would just like to see more of them, or more of the ocean. A wider angle could help you achieve this as to maximize the amount of detail in both the water and the water without losing the lesser emphasized.

Wow, nice catch Japaslavian. I've looked at this shot over and over, and had it as my screensaver for a while and I never noticed that flat rock.

I just got a 50mm, so I also wanted to try this shot with that lens also. I might have to go there tonight and try it again

I think partly I wasn't sure whether the rocks should have more emphasis or if the water should, and I ended up with the nasty 50-50 split. I think a wider angle would definitely help, and maybe I'll try multiple shots, a few with the water as the focal point, and a few with the rocks and see which I like more.

Thanks guys.
