Default Washed Ashore

This photo was taken in Sihanoukville, Cambodia somewhat recently. While there is a person in this photo, I put this in this section because I my intention is to have the concrete wall in the foreground and the tree in the upper left push your eyes past the woman and onto the bright colors of the boat as they contrast against a dark angry-ish sky....

Did I accomplish this? Any other comments appreciated.

Equipment
Nikon D5000
Nikkor AF-S DX 18-200mm
Shutter Priority
Exposure 2.5 seconds
Exposure Bias +5 step
F-stop F/3.5
Focal Length 18mm

Thanks,
Craig

hi, i don't think i like that concrete wall on the bottom...looks blurry....makes me feel like i have to adjust my eyes....i don't like the person in there either...that's just me....i think the boat adrift would look better if taken from the side without those other elements in there....the boat itself looks really cool....listing gently in the waves....just my humble opinion...keep at it....

Hi Craigger,

This is a very intriguing image. It is very mysterious and fills me with questions. Great!

I don't think so. I feel like the concrete wall blocks me from getting into the image in the first place. It doesn't help me move to the background. And the tree pulls me away from the boat because it is so much brighter.

I think you might try cropping both the wall and the tree out of the image. I think that would focus the attention to the boat that the sky more.

This is a really unique image and I think that it has real potential. I'd play around with it a bit more.

I hope that helps

I think you got quite a ghostly atmosphere. May the foreground doesn't work very well...

There is a very eerie feeling that I get when I look at this image. I agree with carles, it looks ghostly. Yes, a bit blurred, but I like it!

Craigger, this image is not technically the best I have seen in terms of sharpness, exposure or anything else related to mainstream image making....

Yet, it does something to me, that cant get me to look away...I just cant explain it and in a photograph, thats a very big deal for me as a viewer. It seems like someone froze a dream....
The grain, the aquamarine blue of the boat, and the fuzziness....its all good

With the inexplicable quality that makes this image all the adjectives you can imagine: enigmatic/mysterious/ghostly/eerie and so on as the above posts mention...I've taken the liberty , (i was too tempted, its an image that goes a long way in my book: hope you dont mind) to edit it and render some of Kansai's rather insightful suggestions...

But yes, overall, you have done something rare (either consciously or inadvertently) that photographers continuously attempting to perfect technique, including myself, (I speak here only as a viewer; i have great respect for technique) sometimes overlook, you have captured some soul. Its like a jimi hendrix blues song...
