hi guys - i am new to DPS and this is my first posted photo. what do you think? critique please !

taken with EOS 350d - f5.6 @ 1/15th sec
afterwards touched up and B+W - sepia with photoshop.
please give feedback. all received with thanks

Asking something more specific will help you get more responses. Its helps a great deal if others know what you like, what you dont like and what you need help with.

ok i will try to be more specific but just wanted general overview as a photo.
i tried to capture the mood and thy feeling of winter, do the contrasts look ok, should i get rid of the sepia tone and does the brightness of the lamp post spoil the image.

I like this image and I'm not even sure what makes it compelling. The modern looking lamp post does seem a little out of place in this one and the glare is more of a distraction than an asset.

Not a fan of this sepia treatment. Not sure why you chose it as it seems completely at odds with the intent of your shot. It's titled cold walk yet you've made it appear as warm as possible by turning everything brown. Also, the treatment itself seems a bit weird. In a night shot, black shadows look natural. Medium brown shadows do not. I have a feeling the original is probably much better at portraying a cold winter walk.

in retrospect i agree. i was trying to give the image an aged look but you are right the toning warms the picture. does anyone know how i could get the ageing without the colouring. i am no expert with photoshop..

try blue! Like a cyanotype!
