Default Gullfoss Waterfall Iceland

Hi everyone,

I just spent a week in Iceland. An amazing place. I took some cool photos and I've been trying out HDR. I would love to get your feedback on my work. I'm going for a realistic look and want to avoid it becoming too much like a cartoon/illustration. So please give me feedback especially on the following points:

1. What do you think about the composition of the image?

2. What do you think about the HDR processing of the image? Is the pinkness in the clouds supposed to be there?

This image was taken using an EOS 550D and Tamron 18-270mm lens.

Thanks!

BFC

I've never used HDR, but since no one has responded, I would say the pinkness should not be there since this does not look like a sunset picture. I think you could have put the horizon so that the sky takes up 1/3 of the image. That is a cool waterfall and I can see why you wanted to shoot it. I would prefer a closer view of it and less of the brown rocks on the right. I don't know if it was possible, but I would like to see a shot from closer to the edge, where you can see where the water is falling.

I am not sure about the pinkish either - but i have never tried HDR. I like Krusty79's ideas, but i think maybe if you cropped out some of the sky it would look a bit better... Also the colour green is very flat and dull - so maybe jsut brightening that will give it a different look.

the HDR doesn't work for me. It's lost all contrast and depth and just looks flat. Try toning the effect down a bit. The eye is used to seeing varying contrast, lights and darks, not just all the same brightness. Looks like a really cool place to photograph though.
