Default Lakeside/driftwood

This picture was shot at around 1 p.m. on a somewhat sunny day. Taken after a major storm on Lake Huron which pounded some driftwood into the sand.

Love the colors and textures in your shot! The blue in the sky is very nice, and the green-ish water is beautiful. On top of that, you have a very cool, weathered piece of driftwood as your subject! My only suggestion would be to frame the shot so the driftwood isn't directly in the center. When you have it framed in one of the 1/3 intersections, it creates a pleasing balance to the image. Right now the subject is in the center, and the horizon is almost in the center as well, splitting the image. Follow the rule of 1/3's and it should look great. Finally, and this is more of a personal preference, you may consider shooting this subject in landscape, as opposed to portrait. It might give you some more room with which to work. Keep these shots coming!

Default Thanks

Thanks for the critique. What you say all makes good sense and I'll keep that in mind when I am in a similar situation. I guess what you are saying is to shoot landscape as landscape and portraits as portrait? Good rule. I shot it as portrait because I had to get rid of some people on the beach. Thanks again.
