Default Brooklyn Bridge - from photowalk

I did the Kelby photowalk in NYC yesterday and took this seven shot pano of the Brooklyn Bridge. I am less than happy with it. The 100 degree temp and the haze did not help the photo, but I would like to know what I might have been able to do to make it better. These frames were shot horizontally, which did not leave much room for cropping. I tried shooting vertical as well, but it did not stitch very well and had a lot of distortion. I shot it in manual with a fixed white balance. I can't put my finger on it, but there is something I just don't like about the shot.

Well, I'd say the main problem here is the composition; personally I would have gone for much more sky than water. I would also have cropped in much more on the Bridge; I've done a very, very rough edit to show you what I mean.

B&W seems to help a little as well. It's not the best of angles though, I think it would have been better if you were halfway along the length of the bridge rather than towards one end, so you had a nice symetrical shot. The stitch has worked well at matching edges though. Remember to not only fix the white balance but also switch to manual focus and lock the exposure as well when doing panos.
