Default Mount Mulligan - Queensland Australia

Mount Mulligan
Mount Mulligan was a mining town in northern Queensland, Australia, the site of Queensland's worst mining disaster. It's also ten times bigger than Ayres rock...

The shot was taken early morning with the sun to my left. I've desaturated the color and added a mask to pop out the boiler ruins.. I'm not to sure about the empty sky if it balances, some clouds would have been nice.

Camera SONY DSC-A300
Exposure (1/30)
Aperture f/10
Focal length 10mm
ISO Speed 100
Flash Off
RAW

The selective color just isn't working for this shot. Also, your subject still isn't very clear (maybe that's me; I'm not an Aussie and I had to read through your post to find out what this was a picture of.) I feel like this would be more visually interesting if the dome had been placed more off to the left (according to the "Rule of Thirds".) I would also like to see the shot in BW and in full color. I like the lack of clouds. In general cloudy skies look crowded to me. The right clouds in the right image are great. This might be one of them so I would try shooting it again on different days (or fake it in photoshop.)

i have to agree with lightwriter here, as for the Blue Sky, well it is Australia and we are renowned for the "Big Blue Above" i find it helps to denote sense of spac. When were you in Mount Mulligan ?

The entrance is all but filled in now. I plan on going back in the wet season for another photo shoot.

I love the shot, but I think I have to agree that it needs a "story" line. I know you only have a select few things to photograph, but for most of us that don't know alot about mining, a rail with a car, or a pick on the ground........something that said "mining" would have made this perfect.... or close enough. LOL. Just my opinion. The boiler tower doesn't say much to alot of people.

Nice Shot nontheless.

PS. Just want to say, this is another great aspect of this site. If any of us travel, we know people to hook up with to get great pics to take home! Grin
